ARGGGGH!
well here goes once more!
got back from granny's house last night. had a blast!granny has a cracked bone on her foot so isn't all that mobile, but she still managed to get around pretty good, including getting out for dinner and going to the beach!
one afternoon, we all (g., auntie a, granny and i) went for a drive to the beach. there was a sandcastle festival going on and wall to wall people. we thought it would be fun to do a beach picnic, but thought we should do it early on acount of all the people out.
the next morning auntie a packed a picnic, while g. and i packed up granny. g. and gran decided to go to qualicum beach instead as she hadn't been there yet and it was a brilliant day.
big blue sky, big blue ocean, big blue mountains, everywhere the eye can
see~Beauty~
after the picnic, g. and i left the two sisters and wandered around the ocean.
on our way down to the shore, i kept seeing occurances that i considered to be very odd indeed. instead of walking only meters further i found scenes of families set up around small puddles in the sand. i'd see little susie's and johny's floating on elbows and tummies, rover bounding in and out among them with mom and dad invariably joining the kids or sitting back lounging in fold up canvas chairs. (note to self, add fold up canvas chairs to wish list)odd, i thought, that is until i stepped into one of these puddles myself, ahhhhhhhhh!
sun-warmed -bouyant -salt -water -oasis', nature's mini hot tubs!~
once we actually got down to the shore, i realised we were all about sharing the shore line with scattered groups of canadian geese. very very cool!i was impressed with these creatures, their long necks, elegant movements, wide backs and heart stopping honks. they were also, surprisingly funny. watching a group of geese glide serenely across the ocean's surface is awesome, watching them interact as individual personalities, is astounding! especially when there is evidence of petty jealousies, budding romances and territorial disagreements among them.
hai ku moment:
havn't crafted the "ku" yet but the following was inspired as i was wading along side the geese in the ocean; i looked down:
i saw waving green sea grass growing in (seeming) random patches on the ocean floori saw goose poop, settling down into these patches as the geese floated elegantly above.i saw geese eating waving green sea grass, growing from the ocean floori saw goose poop settling into the ocean floor, seeding and nurturing the green sea grassthat the geese eat.
i saw a loop along the evolutionary continuim (if there is such a thing):ocean floor, grass, geese, poop, ocean floor, grass, geese, poop, ocean floor ... ad infinitum
an evolutionary symbiotic relationship;because the grass is nurtured by goose poop, the grass the geese eat contains their very own energy and genetic signature, i suspect providing the geese a very unique mixture of vitamins and elements specifically needed by them. this is a perfectly functioning relationship if ever i saw one.
for a moment, when i contemplated this, i actually could feel my mind expanding outwards in an effort to correlate this momentary insight to the wider scope of things. i became very excited and started telling g. what i was seeing, the continuity and symbiotism of these four things; ocean floor, geese, grass and poop,
seems it was a moment crafted for (and probably by) me for me and only me. {sighs melodramatically}
anyhoo, g.'s attention was on other things, as he was stalking a school of fish, fish i couldn't seem to see! between g.'s sand kicking feet, and enthusiasm, my vision kept getting obscured by murk, also the fish would scitter off in fright of being tail gated by my great big boy of a husband. eventually we became a bit more coordinated and my eyes got accustomed to the plays of light and shadow under the water's surface and voila! i realised we we surrounded by fish, and i discovered this was really just another reason for my chubby toes to feel squeemish under water!
i found myself ever more gingerly picking my way across the ocean floor. i felt like a ballerina, or a pelican as i lifted my legs straight up, pointing my toes straight down while surveying the ground below for a relatively bare patch. once spotted, i'd stab my toes into the sand for stability, pull up my other leg and start scouring for the next spot to stop. and good thing i did cuz that's when i began to see rather large crabs furiously hurtling themselves (sideways) scuttling from one patch of grass and rock to the next ever west ward.
once, i felt my foot gag as a lengthy frond of sea grass slid for what felt like
ever between my toes.
we finally made our way to a remote rock, climbed on up, stripped off some layers and soaked up the yellow sun.ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh summatime.
later we made our way back to granny and auntie and went for ice cream yum yum.
while at granny's new house, we saw deer just about everyday come walking across her front lawn or beside her deck. (g. swears he saw a deer with one straight horn. i tease him, and say he saw a unicorn which i only half ways disbelieve)
we also found some really cool trails out behind her house. after which i ran to auntie a's to tell her about the delicious looking gardens i found (a and i discovered we both have a passion for raiding other peoples gardens! don't ask me why) needless to say g. and i came back with a bucket full of (wild) blackberries.
at one point i heard granny say "this has been such a great weekend!" to which i had to chuckle, i had said those very same words to g. only minutes before, at which time i realised, it wasn't even the weekend yet! it was just so much fun, it felt like the weekend.
well we're back home now, our cat was really pissed, and our apartment was nice and cool phew! it was really really hot on the island so coming home was a bit of a relief weather wise.
g. and i can't wait to move to the island. it is so amazing, it has everything i could ever want all in one place, big beaches, lush rain forests, majestic mountains, friendly people, great food, access to art and the arts, crafts and theater.
we were scouring the want ad's this morning!
