I just couldn't go on like I was, I was stumped, stuck, held up. I had no way to get my sketches in, nor any to get my art out. My scanner was busted and my printer antiquated, what is a budding artist to do?
Well I'm not sure but I went to future shop. After an agonising elimination, I walked out with a six in one machine. Printer, stand alone fax machine, photo center and ....SCANNER!
Okay that's just five, the manufacturer also lists PC fax as a sixth feature, but C'mon thats just basically software, so whatever.
I was skeptical at first. I had researched these beasts back in the '90's and knew then they had a long way to go before both the scanner quality and affordability would simultaneously be within my reach. Had we finally arrived at the crystaline era of streamlined, multifunctional, usable, technology that actually works and is available to the masses? Like I said, I was skeptical. I was also desperate.
I endured a slightly annoying set up phase where I realised the USB connective cord I required was not included, even after I had made double sure with the clerk it came with everything I needed to use it, right out of the box, including the USB hardware. Goof.
By the time I worked everything out and sat down for my first scan, I was grinning from ear to ear. The quality kicks ass compared to my last flimsy affair. My last scanner wasn't powerful enough for text. This one? Picks up the grain of the paper I use. Its amazing.
I scanned 118 images in a couple of hours. I'll be uploading some of these images today for display.
Whoohoo!
