The government of Canada: PIMPS?

Did you know that Bawdy houses, massage parlors and (S&M) dungeons are business entities that fall under the umbrella of “living of off the avails of prostitution” as set out by the criminal code?

Well, the government of Canada charges these businesses for operating licenses each year. What is the purpose of a business license? To get a tax number, so these places can pay taxes on the avails of prostitution. Now, doesn’t that mean that the Canadian government is profiting off of the backs of these women? (Pun intended.)

Here is a little Christmas gift s.p.o.c. (sex professionals of Canada) gave the mps this past year. Fucking brilliant!

What does the criminal code say about pimping?

Section 210, procuring and living off the avails of prostitution is the only legal definition of a pimp. The vagueness of the law means that the children, spouses, friends, lovers, and other family members can go to jail for up to 10 years simply for maintaining a relationship with a prostitute. This does nothing to protect prostitutes but pushes them further underground, making them even more vulnerable than they already are.

Specifically:

212. (1) Every one who…

(j) lives wholly or in part on the avails of prostitution of another person,

is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years.

This makes no sense to me. First off, prostitution in this country isn't illegal.

What IS illegal is communicating for purposes of selling sex, procuring women (and girls) into the life, benefiting financially from the work of a prostitute (this includes family, friends, drivers, and dependants of prostitutes) Working, residing or visiting a bawdy house, massage parlor or dungeon for the express purposes of purchasing or selling sexual gratification. Using a residence, hotel or motel room to sell sex is also illegal.

So, while these establishments housing prostitution are illegal, they are also liscenced by the government. While communicating for the purposes of prostitution is illegal, the back of every newspaper, weekly and free daily is filled with advertisments of individuals and businesses both selling sex, you can bet they paid pst on those ads. So the media actually benefits, pardon me, lives off the avails of prostitution as well?

WTFIT?
All this law does is effectively force prostitutes out of familiar suroundings, away from protective eyes, onto the streets and into the waiting cars, van's and residents of Johns.
